Artist's Statement

The lens of the human eye projects images onto the retina. The brain pieces together all these two dimensional images to create our perception of the three dimensional world around us. When we look at a person holding a basketball, we do not wonder whether it is a disk, which would fall flat on the ground if it were dropped. We are certain it is a ball, which will bounce back when dropped.

Because this happens automatically and instantaneously, we seldom really see the images formed by the eye. I use traditional, film based, black and white photographs to reveal the two dimensional shapes, patterns, shades, and textures in a three dimensional world.
